I am translating a handwritten breakdown of lab charges for an insurance claim. On the page is the following:
ouverture dossier urinaire = 9106 B5 = 1.90 euros

According to the CCAM "Biologie Medicale, Nomenclature des Actes", code 9106 B5 is the following:
Forfait de sécurité pour le traitement d'un échantillon en vue d’examens bactériologiques, mycologiques et parasitologiques dans les conditions prévues par le guide de bonne exécution des analyses (préparation, traitement et élimination)
Ce forfait n’est applicable qu’au laboratoire qui prend en charge l’échantillon et pour l’ensemble de la prescription. Il est égal à B 5 (9106).

So, I'm confused as to what is meant by "ouverture dossier urinaire". Any suggestions?

Hi everyone, thanks so much for your help. I don't think I worded my question very well. I basically understood what "ouverture dossier urinaire" meant, I just didn't understand how it corresponded to the "frais de sécurité" in the code description.

Maybe (and I'm just guessing here) they need to open the file to examine what kind of sample it is - perhaps for safety reasons?

Hi David - thanks for taking the time to answer. Yes, they're definitely talking about a urine sample for various lab tests. What I don't get is that the code description (1906) in the CCAM nomenclature states that 1906 is the code for the safety fee charged for handling urine (and other) samples, so I'm not quite sure why the lab wrote "ouverture dossier urinaire".

Hello,

My understanding is that just to handle the case related to urine analysis examination (to open it). I don't think we'd use the word "open" in English in this context.

to open it = to take it on = to handle it

agree Simon Mac : I feel you're probably right - "opening a file" as in "setting up a file"; given the context, this boils down to a "case handling fee" / Oops - I didn't realise the question was closed!
