English term

not to be nearly as effective as

Non-PRO English Social Sciences Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc.
Hello, I don't understand the meaning of this sentence: Does it mean that brainstorming is much more useful than it was thought once, or that it is less useful than it was thought once?
"Some research indicates that brainstorming may not be nearly as effective as once thought"?
Thank you

agree Nesrin : A statement I completely agree with. How can you come up with creative ideas with people shouting all around you?

neutral JaneTranslates : It's a matter of opinion, of course, but I find "not at all" too strong. I would prefer "considerably less" or "significantly less," as suggested by Paul and Simon.
