English term or phrase: interior decorating
Hello
What's the difference btw furniture and interior decirating in this sentence?
"Another type of nonverbal cue is physical environment: building and room design, furniture and other objects, interior decorating, cleanliness, lightning, and noise"
(the text is American, if it can help) I've alwys thought that the decoration of a room and its furniture were more or less the same things.. was I wrong?
Thx!

Selected answer:the decor of a room/house
Explanation:
interior decorating includes the colour scheme, curtains, fixtures and fittings, carpets, furniture, as well as architectural features such as fireplace, staircases, types of flooring etc.

Having recently translated 2 Interior decorating books, I have some experience of this - as well as learning how to build a staircase, and lay tile or wooden flooring...!
