I love all these answers - which makes it very hard to choose just one! You all make very valid points. In the end I'm using a combination of several of your answers, which was in fact suggested by Rachel in a peer comment. And, it seems fairest to award the points to the first answer. Thanks everybody!

This is brilliant! Thanks everybody - I had NO idea!
Margarita Gonzalez Dec 17, 2007:
Viva Madrid is right, just for the record: House music is a style of electronic dance music that was developed by dance club DJs in Chicago in the early to mid-1980s. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_music

I'm not sure if this is true in the UK, but in the US "hot" means both sexy and popular.

agree Terry Burgess : Hi "VM"!!Think you nailed the roof on the house:-) Also, just wanted to wish you the Happiest Xmas & Best NY:-))

Thank you, Terry. Felices fiestas to you as well!
neutral Victoria Porter-Burns : DEFINITELY - that was going to be my point - 'hot' DOES mean 'sexy' in the UK at the moment, more so than 'popular'. It's the 'elegant' that bothers me :-S

neutral Wil Hardman (X) : hot could be sexy but hot works so why change it? Elegant sounds wrong to me. Also house is not normally capitalised.

Warmest, most elegant House

I was an electronic dance music DJ for 10 years; house is a sexy kind of music. I would venture that caliente in this case means sexiest rather than hottest, which in English I take to mean most popular. Caliente doesn't usually mean popular in English.

the hottest, coolest House (music)

I think this would be the best combination of adjectives to describe this kind of music, and would not be contradictory in this context as, to my knowledge, 'hot' and 'cool' mean pretty much the same thing here!
Note from asker:
many thanks, Victoria - another terrific idea, which also works

the hottest and most stylish house

In my opinion all of the other adjectives used to describe house do not work: 'warm house' or 'elegant house'- definately not. The above option is the most similar to the original without using adjectives that do not work.

Thanks Carol, the main thing is that your glossary entry is a good one.
Note from asker:
many thanks, Wil! You make a very good point, and I would most likely have awarded this to you had Rachel not suggested a similar combination earlier on in a peer comment
