I think this is what it means although I may be barking up the wrong tree without more context hence my low confidence level.

agree Adam Warren : Right in the context, although I am impressed by "retail leakage", for which the defininition nevertheless doesn't seem to apply here. For "clients", though, read "custom", since clients are for services, "custom" and the like, for goods
