: Verbringen heißt nur, dass etwas irgendwohin gebracht wird, aber nicht unbedingt, dass es auch gelagert wird.//Man kann auch etwas in einem Sammelbehälter sammeln (z.B. Müll), um es anschließend zu entsorgen.//Klar, aber sammeln ist nicht gleich lagern.

Had you read my first comment you should have realised that I had fully understood that this only applied if the "Stoffe" were wastes. We can all translate the word literally, but I feel broader thinking is necessary here.

: Verbringen means to bring to. Sorting is not part of the meaning. That is also clear from the context: Sie verbringen diese Stoffe getrennt in die verschiedenen Behälter. That means, of course, they have already been sorted before the verbringen occurs.
