German term

Kontobevollmächtigter

German to English Bus/Financial Finance (general)
Taken from general correspondance:

Sehr geehrter Herr X

da Sie als vermutlicher Erbe und Kontobevollmächtigter von Frau X Ihren Wohnsitz im Ausland haben, benötigen wir vom Finanzamt die steuerliche Unbedenklichkeitsbescheinigung.

Would 'authorised account holder' be a suitable translation for 'Kontobevollmächtigter' or is there a more specific, financial term?

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "thanks to everyone for your help. While some of the answers were quite similar, I opted for this one in the end as it is reasonably general yet a nice concise way of saying it."

holder of an authorised signature for the account

No, NOT holder of the account; the person in question clearly held power of attorney for the spouse or possibly mother, since deceased.
Alternatively, "holding power of attorney over the account.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Martin Wenzel : Not necessary, because this would imply that the person has left his signature at the bank, which need not necessarily be the case here.

beneficiary with account access/access to soandso' account

I think this needs to stay more general in the translation because we don't know what the exact relation to the deseased was...
Peer comment(s):

neutral Raghunathan Rajagopalan : Not sure about "beneficiary". The person concerned is not the account holder. He is simply been given powers to operate the account. Here Frau X is the beneficiary

neutral David Moore (X) : So how much different is this from what I posted???

executor of the account

Anyone having power over something is an executor (most common would be of course the executor of a will).
