Je rencontre ce terme dans une traduction allemand-français. Nous parlons de Profibus DP et du numéro d'identification propre à chaque appareil du système. La phrase dit en substance que ce numéro d'identification permet au maître (Master) d'identifier les appareils (esclaves) qui lui sont raccordés sans "protocol-overhead" significatif.
De quoi peut-il bien s'agir ?

Voici la traduction anglaise si ça peut servir :

Each DP slave and each class 1 DP master must have an ID, which is used by the master to
identify the types of connected devices without a significant protocol overhead. The master
compares the IDs of the connected DP devices with the IDs in the configuration data specified in
the configuration tool.
