La oración es la siguiente:

"[The company] made a payment of US$XXX,XXX by wire transfer on Friday, February 10, 2006 in good faith to the Public Treasury of Equatorial Guinea, ON THE UNDERSTANDING that this would be applied against any remaining tax liability for the 1998 to 2002 period, with the excess, if any, to be carried forward and applied to future years."

Había pensado en dividir la oración. Terminar la primera luego de 'Guinea' y empezar otra con '[La Compañía] ASUMIÓ que....'. Pero debido a que este es asunto delicado y la carta es oficial, la palabra ASUMIR puede tener una connotación negativa para la compañía (uno asume algo sin una base). Por eso prefiero no usar la palabra 'asumir' pero no se me ocurre que otra usar.

Uf, me salió larga la explicación, espero haberme hecho entender. Gracias desde ya.

Sí, es verdad que asumir podría ser un poco negativo, pero tampoco es tan grave. De todos modos también podemos usar "entender" con ese sentido de dar por hecho, implicar...
