гипсовые руки и ноги

русский => английский Искусство/Литература Литература и поэзия
Context: a special settler family is living in Tashtagol and the children are playing in a garbage dump.

RE: I had completely forgotten that plaster casts were actually made out of fabric that was only impregnated with plaster.
And that's what i have actually tried to tell you in my answer:-))

It was on (a dump). There could be absolutely anything there;)
Deborah Hoffman (asker) Oct 21, 2005:
The thing I'm trying to figure out is - why were these plaster arms and legs there? This was somewhere near Stalinsk where there was a factory and a mine. And why on earth were they wrapped up?

Selected

(discarded) plaster casts for arms and legs

And they definitely unrolled the plaster bandages (used to make plaster casts), not "unwound"
Peer comment(s):

agree Dorene Cornwell : And then washed things out and resued them on all their cuts and scrapes. Charming.

Thank you!
agree Simon Gregory : the closest to the subject matter. All children clothind was "remade" from adult clothing up to 80s. Reusing fabric was casual.

unwounded plaster hands and legs (found in the trash)

I think that it concerns plaster once used for broken legs/arms (and therefore having a form of arms/legs) and then disposed of.
Peer comment(s):

agree Nina Chulak : I think you are right. I read too fast. But, in that case, it should be something like: "Sometimes, they unwound casts in shapes of arms and legs."

disagree Alexander Demyanov : unwounded means "not wounded"

You are right. The correct form is "unwound".
