Researchers are often judged by their "grant track record" for the purposes of obtaining new grants, promotions, awards, etc. What does that usually entail: is it the success in obtaining grants as evidenced by the number of previous and existing grants and their cumulative dollar value OR
"past performance demonstrating the capacity to carry out proposed research (which) in turn may possibly be used as an indicator of likely future performance"?

As an example of the use of such a term consider these quotes from different sources:
1) What I am opposed to is the implication that researchers’ scholarly merit should be gauged in large measure by grant success. This fundamental and largely unquestioned law of academic life has spawned several corollary ordinances. Most notably, faculty members in a growing number of psychology departments cannot be hired, tenured, or promoted without a solid grant track record — regardless of the quality or impact of their work. Remarkably, researchers who are generating significant discoveries and influencing the field’s thinking without using large sums of money may nonetheless risk being fired if they don’t obtain grants.

2) Six-month workshop facilitated by highly successful pediatric researcher with proven grant track record.

3) Consider carefully whether you are better building your publication and grant track record rather than
investing time in an EOI with a low probability of success

4) Keeping the center afloat for 20 years has been a constant challenge. Even with our fair share of grants and an excellent grant track record, there have been times we thought we would have to close. Research is very expensive, especially the kind that needs to be done in OMS.

5) ...terminated my contract after perfect service, a perfect grant track record, perfect practice statistics, perfect program administration...

I would be most interested in the answers of those who actually applied for grant money in any field of science, medicine, engineering, etc.

The meaning is rather simple Jan 7, 2022

This term means just a documented past history of participation in various grants: as grant recipient, principal (primary) investigator, co-investigator or project executive in grants received by others etc. etc.
