Hi all,

I was browsing through the IATE glossary you can download as a "Plus membership" feature.
I came across this entry:

Don't catch me putting a toast in there...

A mouse in the restaurant Nov 12, 2021

One I came across today: "Our restaurant welcomes mice". The client insisted it was correct. Turns out MICE is an acronym for Meetings - Incentives - Conferences - Exhibitions. Not IATE but I had to share it!

First thing first: you don't need any kind of "subscription" to have access to the IATE database, nor to download it if you want to use it off-line - it has been made available to anyone for free. https://iate.europa.eu/home

Next thing: "context"? Have you checked in what kind of context you would ever have to deal with an "asbestos toast-maker"? Over the years I've had to translate numbers of apparently "totally nonsensical terms" that DID make sense in the specific context where they were used.

Last (but not least) asbestos is dangerous when disturbed - if for example you start drilling into a wall containing asbestos or start smashing walls containing asbestos, and then fill the air with asbestos dust. If you leave it alone and it's under a protective layer, it does its job of providing very good thermal insulation without putting anyone in danger.
