Please help. The document I am working on in Trados Studio 2014 is showing that all the segments are verified. I need to undo this, so that only the translated and verified segments are marked as verified. Can someone please tell me how to do this?

Many thanks for your help.

All you need is to understand the "pipeline concept" on Trados: Apr 25, 2014

Trados 2014 use is a chained process with many steps, as you soon may observed:

a) Project preparation - where you inform language combinations, folders, source files, translation memories to be updated, multi-terms, etc.;

b) File preparation for translation;

c) Translation process (here you work effectively!);

d) Verification process;

e) Release process.

Trados 2014 use is a chained process with many steps, as you soon may observed:

a) Project preparation - where you inform language combinations, folders, source files, translation memories to be updated, multi-terms, etc.;

b) File preparation for translation;

c) Translation process (here you work effectively!);

d) Verification process;

e) Release process.

I think that you worked steps a) thru d), but you need to go back to step c). That is easy, it takes few minutes, if you work very carefully.

First of all, update all your translation memories: with a right click on the file, select "Batch Tasks" and you may see translation memory updates options - project and global ones.

Second, create a new folder named, for example, \BACKUP and move all corresponding target files (I mean, translated files and corresponding .xliff files) to that folder, in order to revert this procedure, if it get fail. Beware: now Trados may think that this file is not prepared anymore for translation, that is, you "get back" to step a) above! If you forget to do this move, you may loss your previously done translation work for steps b) to d) above.

Third, do a copy of the source file to be translated, and change its name slightly (e.g. from "MY_Source_File" to "MY_Source_File_B"); leave it on the same folder of source files.

Fourth, now insert that copy of this file (with changed name) to your project, but only use option "Analyse file". Of course, now you get the same file to be translated again! No pain! You got back to step a) with that file with changed name, with no filled target segments.

Fifth, now change all segment statuses that you want to be locked using (Ctrl-L) on them.

Sixth, right click on this file, select "Batch Tasks" and "Pre-translation". Now, Trados fills all your empty target segments with your previously translated work, but does nothing with the locked segments. In other words, Trados is doing step c) for you automatically! But this only work, if you succeeded with the first step mentioned above.

After that, you are back to start step d) again over the file with changed name.

Again: be very careful!

What you did here, was redoing all translation steps from b) to c), but with different locked segments.

Segment c), that yo did manually previously, Trados did it automatically for you on all unlocked segments.

HTH.

Thank you! Apr 27, 2014

Dear Wolf,

Thank you so much for your detailed and helpful message, and your effort to communicate it to me! Honestly, I was working under deadline, and being new to Trados, did not feel prepared to undertake the steps you outlined (they may not have been that intricate or demanding; probably more indicative of my stress level at the time). Dear Wolf,

Thank you so much for your detailed and helpful message, and your effort to communicate it to me! Honestly, I was working under deadline, and being new to Trados, did not feel prepared to undertake the steps you outlined (they may not have been that intricate or demanding; probably more indicative of my stress level at the time). I ended up going through the doc and changing each untranslated segment manually.

You know, the same error occurred yesterday as I was working, after I had spend the better part of a half an hour manually changing the stati of the segments, which confirmed for me that this is indeed an error, because I know that it is not something I have accidentally entered.

I simply pressed undo until it went back to before it had verified all the segments, and fortunately did not lose much work. I pressed save and restarted Trados.

Anyway, thank you so much for your help.

Kind regards,
Isabella
