Rates in financial translation field Thread poster: Egils Turks

Hello colleagues,
I have worked 10 years in a Central bank. And, recently I was asked by a European company providing services in financial field to quote my translation rate in English-Latvian pair.
I am aware that rates differ depending on a language pair. But still - can anyone tell me about "normal"/average rates in the financial field?

Thanks, I know this resource.
However, I am asking about specific field - rates in financial field.
What are rates in this field in other language pairs? These might not be directly applicable to my case but would provide a part of a picture.

If you haven't noticed, rates are the most carefully guarded commercial secret in this business. Where I live, only the IRS (the government tax agency) has the legitimate right to ask me how much I make, and I would be obligated by law to tell them.
Instead, look at the community rates, as suggested, and then ask yourself how much you value your work, and what is actua... First, I am not asking for YOUR rates in financial field. I am asking for the AVERAGE rates, this means - your idea what "normal rates might be in this field.
Second, I am not asking about all your income/rates, just idea of the rates in a specific field; I presume that translator working in just one field would be quite an uncommon case.

Average rates for specific language pairs, yes. But I don't think you can make general statements about rates for specific subjects. Most of us charge the same rate whatever the subject - though if it were a highly complex job that required a lot of research, you might be justified in making an extra charge.

If you specialize in financial translation you should definitely subscribe to Dominique Jonkers' financial translators' list, where a lot of sector-specific terminology and information comes up. I don't recall seeing specific prices cited, but once you've lurked a bit and seen who does what you could contact people off list, I would imagine.
