ShannonLK TM-Town Profile

With over 12 years of
experience in the field of translation, I imbue my work with care and
precision, engaging with clients in an open, collaborative manner to ensure
both high quality and timely results. I have worked with research and
journalism foundations, universities, governments, nonprofit organizations,
international organizations and multinational retail and energy companies, among other
entities, and I have worked with individuals in academia on anything from graduate level research papers, to speeches to Fulbright applications.

Through my seven years of
in-house experience in the US, I had the unique experience of working with government
agencies and nonprofit organizations tasked with bridging the gap between the
technical language of education law and the needs of parents and advocates of
children with special needs to access the information necessary to exercise their
rights and meet their responsibilities, often a debilitatingly cumbersome task
if one is not an expert in the field. During my time in this position, I helped
thousands of people to ensure the wellbeing and educational benefit of children
with special needs, one of the most valuable experiences of my career.

In 2014 I moved to Colombia and lived there for five years, freelancing on one-year and shorter-term projects. I currently work from Asia. Recent clients include
InSight Crime as a full-time translator and Universidad de Antioquia as a freelance copy editor. Current long-term projects include the UN Development Programme (as a volunteer coordinator, editor and translator) and Prison Insider (as a volunteer translator and editor).
