2011: count numbers as untranslatable Thread poster: pcs_MCIL
|
Hello, I am analyzing a huge *.doc file that comprises a lot of table with just numbers. The document itself is around 90 k words, and the analysis returns 25 k repetitions. However, I don't want the analysis to count the numbers, since those are not to be translated. How can I set up Trados 2011, so that in the analysis the numbers are not counted as word? | | | Delete numbers in tables (in Word) and reanalyze | Feb 6, 2013 |
This seems like a simple enough solution. I'd love to learn of a way to do that via Trados though. But hey, don't get any ideas, agencies! | | | pcs_MCIL English to Italian + ... TOPIC STARTER
Do you realize how long it would take to delete all the numbers in a 313 pages document?! | | | Richard Hill Mexico Local time: 04:18 Member (2011) Spanish to English Find and replace | Feb 6, 2013 |

Can you not simply use find and replace, and replace "any digit (^#) with "nothing" added in the "replace with" box? Unless this would remove other numbers you do want to include in the analysis. | |

Couple of ideas... | Feb 6, 2013 |
Hi, First, depending on the content of your file it may be enough to use the existing analysis in Studio because you may be able to determine how much relates to numbers. The way the analysis is represented is explained here : http://wp.me/p2xDjK-cK If this is inadequate because you have too many other types of placeables then perhaps create a new file for analysis without numbers by usi... Thank you, rich. That's exactly what I meant - regular expressions can work wonders. Sorry if my answer was not detailed enough. | | | Switch back to 2007 | Feb 6, 2013 |
You could try switching back to 2007, at least for the analysis. Even if you have a TM in Studio you want to use, I think creating a TM in 2007 and importing the tmx will be less risk-prone and time-consuming than the other options. As far as I know, good ol' 2007 recognizes numbers as non-translatable placeables. Paul, I'm on holiday so I don't have time right now to read through your blog post, but I will file it away for future reference. Now, why couldn't we just tick a little b... Now, why couldn't we just tick a little box in Studio so we can just choose how we would like Studio to treat numbers? Why go through all this trouble, creating new files or making assumptions? (I don't know if you remember me, but I work at EY Argentina and we've already discussed this issue about the numbers with you and Terry).

I agree with Valeria - why make such a simple (and much needed!) task so difficult for the user, when the older version could manage it just fine? | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » 2011: count numbers as untranslatable CafeTran Espresso | You've never met a CAT tool this clever!
