Using Studio 2009, I have translated and saved a file (docx) seemingly without problems. But when I try to open the target file, I get this error message:
The file blahblah.docx cannot be opened because there are problems with the content.
Details
Unspecified error
Location: Part: /word/header1. xml, Line: 1, Column: 1912
Please can someone tell me what this means/what I should do? MTIA! Sue

same problem Sep 21, 2012

Hi, I had the same problem some time ago and I could not solve it in any way...the problem was with the source file, and with the HTML in particular.
There's also another forum post on that, in Italian

however, also in this case the poster had to give up and cut/paste the Trados text into a word file...

My agency said that they could open the file, though, by exporting it from Studio 2011 (I had used 2009). Try exporting the SOURCE text and see if you have the same problem

similar problems, solution? Sep 21, 2012

I had recently a similar problems with Studio 2009 and Word 2010.

if the target file is corrupted, you can try that: (repair before opening)

1. Open Microsoft Word 2010 and then selected Open from the File menu.
2. Select the original Word document.
3. Click the small arrow next to the Open button and chose Open and Repair from the drop-down menu.
4. Accept the changes made by Word.
5. Save the document.

I hope it works for you!

A guess Sep 21, 2012

Try to save the original source file in Word 97 - 2003 format (.doc) and translate it with the existing TM.

Good luck!

Thank you! Really useful Sep 24, 2012

Sorry not to reply before now. On Friday, with my deadline looming and having seen Claudia's post, I decided to play safe and spent an hour and a half cutting and pasting back into Word...other than my blood pressure rising a lot and my weekend starting later, no harm done.
Today, with a little time to experiment, I have tried Madeleine's and Christian's suggestions ("open and repair" original document, open in Trados and run against the exisitng translation memory) - and it works! And it

Today, with a little time to experiment, I have tried Madeleine's and Christian's suggestions ("open and repair" original document, open in Trados and run against the exisitng translation memory) - and it works! And it only took 5 minutes, too! So thank you all three, this could prove very, very useful for the future.

One more example Aug 31, 2013

I experienced the same problem today and was able to fix it using the convert-to-.doc approach that Christian suggested. I did have to do some manipulations in the translation process to merge segments again and fix tags in several places, but in the end I had a viewable target document. Thank you!

Another case Oct 14, 2013

Great advice, another lifesaver. In my case I had to do the exact opposite, though. Save the doc document as docx and translate it with the translation memory. I have yet to see how much formatting was altered, but at least I can open the Word document.

Thank you Claudia. Your solution saved my day! The target came out okay and with all the original formatting.
