Hello
I am a part time translator and I have never used a CAT tool before. I'm planning on becoming a ProZ member, in order to apply for more translation jobs. I noticed many jobs require SDL Trados. I don't think learning to use the software is a big deal, my main problem is affording the software, so I though maybe having the Starter edition could help me.

I don't really care for the functionality, I'm used to translating without any software and I'm fast enough without it, I just want to be able to get some work.

I would try it. I've worked with the Starter Edition for a year before updating to the full version.
You can use the basic functions that you need for translating, such as opening single files and projects, using or creating a translation memory and delivering the file or project. There are a lot of additional functions that you probably won't need at first, like creating a project, opening multiple TMs at the same time or working with very large TMs.

I'd also encourage you to get the Proz membership. It takes some energy and perserverance, but I have found many new clients here. It's worth the investment, even for someone like me who is not keen on paying for website access.
