Hello,
I have just bought a new PC running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit, and after having reinstalled Trados Studio 2009 SP3 and Multiterm 2009 SP4 (perfectly running on my previous PC under Windows XP), I’m facing some troubles in adding and editing terms in the termbase. Every time I click on “Add new term”, the following message appears:

Hello,

Every time I click on “Add new term”, the following message appears:

An error has occurred in the script on this page.
Line: 73
Character: 2
Error: Unable to get value of the property “firstChild”: object is null or undefined
Code: 0
URL: file:///C:/Program%20Files%20(x86)/Common%20Files/SDL/MultiTerm8/MultiTermMtCommon/Editor/script/traverse.js
Do you want to continue running scripts on this page?

If I click “yes” the new term is inserted in the termbase (I can read it in the Termbase viewer list) but the box where I should edit source/target/notes/comments etc. is completely blank.
I can only see the list of the terms without possibility to select, edit or simply view the source and target details. If I click “No” the inserting operation is canceled.

The same happens working in Multiterm. If I open an existing termbase, I can see the list of the terms but the same message appears every time I try to edit one of them.

I have already tried to run the programs as administrator and to disable the plug-in Java (Java 6, build 1.6.0_22-b04) both attempts without results.

Is there anyone who can help me in solving this matter?

Many thanks

Consuelo

Enabling ActiveX in IE? Mar 14, 2012

Hi Consuelo,
this is just a shot in the dark, but you may want to try to enable ActiveX scripts in your Internet Explorer. This helps sometimes.

Same problem Apr 26, 2012

Hello Consuelo,

Could you fix your problem? I am encountering the same error in my Studio 2011. I have been working with its Multiterm for months, but since a few days I always receive this script error and I am no longer able to enter terms into my termbase.

Stefanie

I think to have all the updates installed because I have the automatic check for updates enabled. I also have Active X scripts enabled on my IE but the situation remains the same.
I’m sorry I can’t help you. If I will find the solution I will let you know. Please do the same if you will find it first.

Hoping for a solution Apr 27, 2012

Hello Consuelo,

Thank you for your reply. I read a lot in other threads about deactivating or de-installing Java, .NET, etc. Some colleagues recommended a complete re-installation of Studio and Multiterm, but I find this too troublesome at the moment and I have too much work to risk any problems with a Trados re-installation.

So, for now I'm simply not adding new terms in my termbases, hoping that the people at SDL will patch this in the next Service Pack or post a fix

So, for now I'm simply not adding new terms in my termbases, hoping that the people at SDL will patch this in the next Service Pack or post a fix in the KB.

I'll let you know here in this thread if I find a solution to our problem.

The steps they suggest didn't solve my problem, but maybe they could be useful to solve yours. Let me know.

Still not solved Apr 27, 2012

Thank you, Consuelo. I followed the steps in the article, but when I tried to register jscript.dll, I received this (German) error message:

****************

I looked up the error code, but what I found also did not solve my problem. I do think, however, that the problem might indeed be linked to Java not being properly registered on my machine. I will look into this in more detail when I have some more time, probably next week.

Try to execute the file attached to the article Apr 27, 2012

The same error message as me on Studio 2009. But if you work on Studio 2011 you should execute the Selfregister.exe file attached to the article. Maybe this could solve.

MultiTerm 2011 SP1 Apr 28, 2012

Thank you for your advice, Consuelo, but the article explicitely states that it "is only meant to be used with SDL MultiTerm 2011 (without any service pack). For all other scenarios, use the manual steps described above."

My version is MultiTerm 2011 SP1.

I can enter terms again! May 4, 2012

Consuelo, my MultiTerm term insertion is working again! Yesterday, I was asked by another application to delete an older version of Java (Java 5 Update 10, I believe), which I did. I tested MultiTerm afterwards, but I still couldn't enter new terms. Today, I was asked to install a Java add-on in Firefox, which I did.

And when I tried MT just now, I was suddenly able to enter new terms again! I do not know whether it was yesterday's de-installation and a computer re-start, the Firefo

And when I tried MT just now, I was suddenly able to enter new terms again! I do not know whether it was yesterday's de-installation and a computer re-start, the Firefox add-on, or something completely different, but I can insert new terms again!

The Java versions I now see in my Software list in the control panel are Java 6 Update 24 and Java 6 Update 32.

Problem solved Apr 10, 2014

Just in case someone else has the same problem.

I uninstalled all the Java versions I had (in Control Panel), and then, when I tried to add an entry in Multiterm again, it asked me to install a specific version of Java, so I did it and I was able to use it again.
