TM empty after uploading txt! Thread poster: aweissbrodt

Dear all,
I started to work with WORDFAST, the test version given on their homepage. Everything is fine - but when I want to upload and use the TM that my client has given to me, and I search a word in the TM Lookup, it gives no response - even if I choose a word from the txt file from which I defenitely know it is given.
I have a quite urgent project and I need help! What can I do to get the TM in there correctly?

Hello Anja,
you probably need a TM in tmx format from your client. WF uses TM's in txt format, yes, but if you'd want to import a TM (from a Trados user, for instance), you'd need it in tmx format. When you select that particular TM, WF will convert it to a txt file and is then able to use it.

taht was what I did in the first place. My client sent me a tmx. I opened the Demo Version of Wordfast, selected "Edit" and afterwards "Preferences". Then I clicked "New" and browsed for the file of the client. When I uploaded it, the following message came up:
"This file is in tmx format. Copy will be safed in local format. (welches das ist, wurde nicht gesagt). Non cmpatible locales will not be imported."
And afterwards:

So from my point of view, I should be able to use the TM now.... but it still does not work....

I'm sorry, I don't quite follow...
What I usually do at the start of a translation is:
open the file to be translated (doc)
then I open WF
TM (tab)
Select TM -> browse for the tmx file from the client -> double click (I usually save it in a TM folder first)
and then wait for a while (sometimes it takes WF a while to convert it, especially a large TM)
voila! Off you go!

Sounds like you must be using WF Pro, Marjolein's advice was for WF Classic.

The menus you described above are the WF Pro menus. This is a "stand alone" program. WF Classic is a macro in Word (similar to how Trados works in Word).
You probably should contact the Wordfast help directly to get your TM problem sorted out, I'm afraid that WF Pro is so new, there aren't many expert users yet, you are not likely to get help from peers here on Proz. There is also a yahoo group for Wordfast Pro users, maybe try that too.

Check the locales of the TMX file you tried to import and the source and target locales of your translation project. I haven’t tested this stuff thoroughly, but even WF Classic is quite picky as for them, so make sure that if you project is EN-US → DE-DE, the TMX codes be exactly such.
