Spanish term

cavista

Spanish to English Other Wine / Oenology / Viticulture
Premio a Cavista del Año......

This business won some type of award in the wine industry.

I am finding that cava is a wine cellar or refers to sparkling wine in spain. What would a cavista be?

Cava producer

I think that this term would suit as it's not clear if the person is the oenologist, owner of the label or property, etc.

agree Carol Gullidge : have to admit, my first thought was "cellarman", but it seems not

Thanks, Carol. If it's a business, I'm supposing that it's a producer/distributor in the widest sense, from a small family organization to Cordoníu.
agree Joel Schaefer : Yes, if the business makes cava. We need Eric to tell us whether they make bubbly or still.

Thanks, Joel. He mentioned "sparkling".
agree Charles Davis : "Cavista" refers to "cava", not to any other sort of wine.

Thanks once again, Lisa.
agree Andy Watkinson : Added as someone who drives past Codorniu, Freixenet, Nadal etc...on a daily basis. Virtually the entire population of San Sadurni are "cavistas".

Thanks, Andy. We have a few cases shipped to Saragossa every Christmas.
