Spanish to English Bus/Financial Real Estate Property Registration Documents
In some notarized property documents from Spain to be used in the sale of the property, the texts reads as follows:

Cargas Vigentes
Afección por autoliquidación del impuesto

It sounds like a lien caused by a self-assessment of a tax??? The phrase is meaningless to me. Can anyone shed any light. Yes, I know the questions has been asked before but they don't make sense in this context.

US land liens Afección could well be a lien in the US. Land charge for E&W consumption is often mistaken by native Spanish translators and interpreters for an expense payable on the land, as opposed to a mortgage-type security interest.

Asker I don't think this is a lien. "Cargas vigentes" would mean "tax burden" or "tax liabilities, I assume thus appears in a deed of sale and is referring to the Spanish real estate transfer tax (Impuesto sobre Transmisiones Patrimoniales )

[Lien/encumbrance arising from] Tax return self-assessment

That's my understanding of the phrase. Rebecca Jower lays out a pretty clear description of "Autoliquidación" in her Lexicon (under 4.2 Declaraciones Tributarias) "Self-assessment (taxpayer’s reporting of income and calculation of taxes due on a tax return)".

Self-assessed tax (AmE: land) lien > (BrE) charge

I agree with the answer of self-assessment. But no one is picking up on US land liens (charges in E&W), nor the conundrum of a self-imposed assess,emt to tax that can be challenged by the Hacienda, subject - in my experience - to the offer of a 'regalo'.

neutral AllegroTrans : well this is conceivable, but in my experience the property transfer tax has to be paid on execution of the final deed of sale and the notary certifies this

Deed of sale - meaning escritura publica de compraventa. I am pleased you think the tax gets paid on execution of the conveyance. But it needs to be any time pre-reg. You still need to d/w the *federal tax lien* point in US fed. state law.
