Please note: I am fed up with Latinate, non-natural sounding translation into English that sounds horrible. All these people translating into English and all these other people agreeing and very often it sounds really bad. I think one should be humble. I wouldn\'t Dream Of translating into Spanish because I don\'t have the thing in my bones. I do do interpreting into Spanish..and guess what, I\'m pretty good...but this Kudoz area has a huge collection of Spanglish in it that is a real joke. And that is the truth.

: I have often heard "lift the punishment" in everyday language (US English), and I think that the levantar/levantar parallelism of the original should be preserved in the translation if possible

it all goes together:
poner en penitencia = to ground him
levantarle la penitencia = no sé si se diga "unground him", se entendería, pero para el contexto, yo diría "forgive him"
A father grounds his son because of his bad grades. The next day, the father decides to forgive him because he promises to get better grades...
