Italiano term

pilastri

Da Italiano a Inglese Arte/Letteratura Musica voice training
This term, "pilastri" is in reference to voice training for singers, and is mentioned together with a reference to the soft palate and the uvula. I thought it might be a term for vocal chords, but am not sure.

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Jul 27, 2005:
So I guess conversationally, they can be alluded to as "tonsils"? (More of a question than a note,)

pillars

Tonsillar fossa/tonsil including faucial tonsil, palatine tonsil, tonsillar fossa, tonsillar pillar, and faucial pillar.

The vocal chords are mentioned further on - I thing they are further back (and down)

pilastri tonsillari, pilastri delle fauci > tonsillar pillars, faucial pillars

These are right at the back of the mouth before the entrance to the pharynx - below and to the side of the uvular, roughly speaking, I think.

crura

I came across this recently in a medical text, and found 'crura' which means: (plural of crus) A body part consisting of elongated masses or diverging bands that resemble legs or roots i.e. in the shape of legs.
I am not sure if this fits into your context...

Plica.
Another possibility from the same dictionary, for pilastro: \'plica\' = A fold or ridge, as of skin, membrane, or shell.

pillars+references

http://www.demauroparavia.it/82915

pillar (pil·lar) (pil¢[schwa]r) [L. pila] a supporting column, usually occurring in pairs.(Dorland's medical dictionary)

nel tuo caso ci vorrebbe un po' più di contesto (ovvero a che pilastri si fa riferimento?)
ecco alcune opzioni dal DORLAND'S MEDICAL DICTIONARY:
pillars of diaphragm, see pars lumbalis diaphragmatis.
posterior pillar of fauces, arcus palatopharyngeus.
pillars of soft palate, see arcus palatoglossus and arcus palatopharyngeus.
http://www.mercksource.com/pp/us/cns/cns_hl_dorlands.jspzQzp...

Credo che nel tuo caso si tratti dei due ultimi pilastri. Potrebbe anche trattarsi del pilastro diaframmatico...ma senza ulteriore contesto è difficile dirlo. In ogni caso, si parla sempre di pillars
