"מרוג" comes from the root "אריגה", which implies a woven pattern.
In the context of sheet steel, this translates as "textured" - i.e. "פח מרוג" translates as "textured sheet steel".

Do a google image search for "textured sheet steel"and for "פח מרוג", and observe the similarity of the results.

"teardrop" mentioned in the original answer is just one type of pattern.
