German term

Wechselmimik

German to English Tech/Engineering Metrology Messmaschinen
Gleich beim nächsten Satz - es handelt sich noch immer um die Beschreibung einer neuen Messmaschine - stolpere ich über einen Begriff, der mir in den letzten (fast) 20 Jahren noch nicht begegnet ist:

"Die *Wechselmimik* (ich ergänze: des Fräskopfs) ist so konzipiert, dass auch taktile Messtaster oder Diodentaster jederzeit schnell, sicher und bedienerfreundlich über den bekannten Würfelkopf eingesetzt werden können."

Mein Ansatz: (frei)
"The construction of the milling head allows/enables the fast, secure and user-friendly replacement/fitting also of tactile or diode probes via the known receptable cube at any time."

Was meint ihr hierzu?

Annett

Discussion

Steffen Walter Nov 1, 2011:
@ Phil I'd interpret "Mimik" as "(quick-)change mechanism/assembly" - compare http://www.proz.com/kudoz/german_to_english/automotive_cars_... (in particular John Jory's peer comment) and http://www.proz.com/?sp=gloss/term&id=3280535
philgoddard Nov 1, 2011:
I'm no expert either, but Mimik means procedure here, so your suggested translation is on the right lines. "Also of tactile or diode probes via the known receptable cube" needs a lot of work, however - but you probably know that.
Ingeborg Gowans (X) Nov 1, 2011:
not an expert but I assume from the cpontext that it borrows the term from visual expressions and means simply adaptability: it can "smile or frown", if you like :)

Or even 'versatile milling head', if you prefer it that way.
