\\S\\

German to English Medical Medical: Health Care scientific notation
Results from a blood count (leukocytes and thrombocytes).
The units are given as 10\S\9/l, and the numbers given work out correctly if this means 10^9 per liter.

So am I correct in assuming that \S\ using the backslash means "superscript"?

Very unusual, but there is really no other interpretation possible. Maybe a conversion error of some sort?
