I need to know whether HFBR is an English or German abbreviation. Does anyone know what HFBR stands for here.

Discussion

Johannes Gleim Jul 7, 2019:
Allie does not return any valid term for the acronym "AFBR" in the subject electronics, either. Both "AFBR" and "HFBR" are type names from Broadcom-Avago.

3 hits for bioreactors.
No wonder. "Allie is a search service for abbreviations and long forms utilized in Lifesciences."

But other services do return the same not applicable terms, too:
See:
https://www.acronymfinder.com/AFBR.html and https://www.acronymfinder.com/HFBR.html
https://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/AFBR and https://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/HFBR
Ramey Rieger (X) Jul 5, 2019:
To answer your question it's English
Mair A-W (PhD) Jul 5, 2019:
some things it *could* be http://allie.dbcls.jp/short/exact/Any/HFBR.html

but personally I doubt it's any of those, given the (meagre) context of "Lichtleiter"...

optical wave guide (optical fiber) HFBR-...

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lichtleiter

An optical waveguide is a physical structure that guides electromagnetic waves in the optical spectrum. Common types of optical waveguides include optical fiber and rectangular waveguides.
Optical waveguides are used as components in integrated optical circuits or as the transmission medium in local and long haul optical communication systems.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waveguide_(optics)

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lichtwellenleiter

An optical fiber is a flexible, transparent fiber made by drawing glass (silica) or plastic to a diameter slightly thicker than that of a human hair.[1] Optical fibers are used most often as a means to transmit light between the two ends of the fiber and find wide usage in fiber-optic communications, where they permit transmission over longer distances and at higher bandwidths (data rates) than electrical cables.

agree D. I. Verrelli : Good research. "HFBR" might be contrasted with "AFBR". https://www.newark.com/c/optoelectronics-displays/fiber-opti...

The idea was to get the asker searching in the acronym link.
neutral D. I. Verrelli : The "High Flux Beam Reactor" refers to a specific installation that was decommissioned in 1999, so this may help decide whether it could apply to the source text. However, it is possible to talk of "neutron optics", for example.

HFBR fibre optic equipment

type of fibre optic equipment, in US English would be spelled fiber.
Peer comment(s):

neutral D. I. Verrelli : "Equipment" seems a bit broader than "Lichtleiter". E.g. might a laser be "fibre optic equipment"? Or some sort of light meter? "Component" might be a bit narrower in meaning.

HFBR - possible explanation for the name

The H could stand for HP/Hewlett-Packard and the FBR for fiber/fibre. The A in the subsequent series AFBR could stand for Avago or Agilent.
