Discussion

Ramey Rieger (X) Aug 11, 2012:
Hello Olga! CONTEXT would be very helpful! The preceding and following sentences, sandwiching the sentence to be translated.
Horst Huber (X) Aug 11, 2012:
Brigitte, you may be right. For one, we have to choose: Is it "you" or "they"? Earlier in the paragraph the reference is "you", but it seems to switch to "they". One might formulate an answer leaving the choice open.
BrigitteHilgner Aug 10, 2012:
Schlechtes Deutsch! Es müsste heißen: Sie haben eine Erkenntnis voraus (was ich auch nicht für sehr gelungen halte). Ich vermute, dass es sich um folgenden Text handelt:
http://www.bodensee-standortmarketing.com/de/teilregionen.ht...
Dann könnte man vielleicht schreiben:
They know more than others / They know from experience, etc.

You/they have the advantage of insight

No, it's not "hindsight". "Ihnen ist ..." seems a bit awkward, but it is merely archaic vernacular for "to you/them belongs xx", "xx is yours/theirs". I heard it from my grandmother, "mir isch" = "I have", or "I feel".

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "This one fits at best in the context, thanks!"

you know in advance; you know ahead of time

Two of various possibilities.
Peer comment(s):

disagree BrigitteHilgner : No: this is about past experience not about knowledge of the future. These people have made an experience which others haven't made yet.

You're already in the know

Or:
"You're onto something here.."

The author wins the reader over through flattery. To be effective, any translation probably shouldn't be too literal...

They're ahead of their time/they're in the know

based on Brigitte's reference, I would choose "they"
