triple-time rhythms

Strictly speaking, in classical music, you talk about binary and ternary FORM, i.e. the structure of a piece, and duple and triple time for RHYTHMS...

But since we are in the folk arena here, I am really not sure if this is applicable.

Triple meter / triple patterns

Chapter 3, Page 1
... The three beat pattern is also known as TRIPLE METER. Each measure in TRIPLE METER

Although other patterns do exist (SEXTUPLE, SEPTUPLE, OCTUPLE, etc.), our ears tend to combine the more complex rhythmic patterns into smaller, simpler ones. So a SEXTUPLE pattern would probably be heard as a combination of two triple patterns; a SEPTUPLE pattern as some combination of two duples and a triple or a quadruple and a triple; and so on.

There are simple and COMPOUND TRIPLE METER
SIMPLE=each beat is divided into 2 parts, TRIPLE=3 beats
COMPOUND=each beat is divided into 3 parts, TRIPLE=3 beats
