French to English translations [PRO]
Medical - Medical (general) / Fit to fly letter
French term or phrase: médecin de l'assistance de la compagnie
Hi, Can anybody confirm the meaning of this in the context of a 'fit to fly' letter.

It appears as follows:
Je soussigne docteur XXX déclare que XXX ne présente pas de contre-indication à prendre l’avion pour son retour a domicile sous réserve d’assistance et de surveillance par le médecin de l’assistance de la compagnie.

Current attempt:
The company's assisting doctor.

Any help appreciated!

English translation:the company's medical escort (physician)
Explanation:
This is a doctor whose job is to accompany patients being repatriated if they're ill or injured abroad, or otherwise fly them somewhere else for treatment, or to organise this service. You could just say 'medical escort', or add 'physician' to make it clear they're not a nurse.

Médecin régulateur dans l'assistance : les globe-totters de l'urgence
Leur mission : organiser et accompagner la prise en charge médicale ou le rapatriement sanitaire des clients de la compagnie d'assistance qui les emploie.

A medical escort is a non-emergency medical service provided by commercial aircraft, by medical escort companies, and sometimes by self-employed medical escort freelancers, who typically work for a medical repatriation company... Medical escort physicians consult with the referring physicians to jointly determine the most appropriate level of care and most suitable method of transportation.

It's possible that 'compagnie' means 'airline' - this may be apparent from the wider context.

assistance, airline, médecin, avion

Explanation:
I would say "subject to assistance and supervision by the company's assistance doctor".

Example sentence(s):
  • les patients souffrant d’un handicap ou d’une maladie peuvent voyager sous réserve d’assistance et de surveillance par le médecin de l’assistance de la compagnie.

neutral  philgoddard: 'Assistance' has a specific meaning here, and a literal translation doesn't work.
