Hello, I suspect this could be a typo. This is from a book the subject of which is an overview of biology; this word appears in a section entitled "Agriculture - nutrition. Nourrir la communauté des hommes" under a subheading "Apports de la génomique":

"Nous avons examiné, dans les précédents chapitres, les principales démarches inhérentes à la génomique structurale et fonctionnelle et décrit certains des résultats issus de ces approches et concernant les plantes. D'importantes observations ont été réalisées, notamment sur les céréales (blé, riz, maïs), et l'étude des gènes d'intérêt (croissance, robustesse, résistance aux maladies, qualité nutritionnelle, etc.) a beaucoup progressé. Cette étude bénéficie des données relatives à la synthénie."
