serviced apartment Explanation: The included services may be more than just cleaning. Leave it non-specific. In the US, serviced apartments are likely to relieve the tenant of having to arrange for telephone, utilities, trash pickup and a host of other services. Alternative to extended-stay hotels. Providers in Asia seem to prefer "service apartment", but I would stick with the past particle for US English. |

Rental apartment with cleaning service. Explanation: See the link to the glossary. Service flat – Rental apartment with cleaning service. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2007-06-21 18:06:37 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- No, I don't think so. Apartments are rented under similar terms; visitors take them for a month, two months, and don't wish to be bothered with buying brooms and rags and detergents. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 3 hrs (2007-06-21 20:10:15 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- There's another kind of 'service flat' for elderly people. See here: http://www.cababstractsplus.org/google/abstract.asp?AcNo=200... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 4 hrs (2007-06-21 21:48:30 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- It doesn't much matter that it's from Sweden, an early socialist state; it describes what a service flat is, and an American audience will surely not be so provincial that the term will leave them dumbfounded. Over in NA we also know the difference between a banister and a barrister (stair railings and a certain kind of lawyer), a flat in a building and a flat in a tyre/tire, gaol and jail... ;) You can use 'apartment' if you prefer. http://www.villarenters.com/villas/south-america-recife-vill... Service Flat, Boa Viage, Recife Beautiful service flat, new, recently decorated, totally furnished. Two bedrooms with double beds, 1 suite. Garage, 24 hour security, coffee shop, swimming pool, sauna, gym. http://wikitravel.org/en/New_York_(city)/Brooklyn Park Slope Long a haven for interracial families, lesbians and gays, and everyone else with a certain kind of groove in NYC, this upscale but downhome neighborhood can be joked about as the Berkeley of New York City. ... .. While staying hip and vibrant, "the slope" as it is commonly referred to, also enjoys its share of wealth. The quaint, tree-lined streets closer to the park house ornate, bronwstones, townhouses, **full service apartment** buildings, and even a few full scale urban mansions on the parkside. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 5 hrs (2007-06-21 22:07:44 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Okay, I hope this answers the question at last (I can't stop answering it for myself!) I googled "assisted living apartment" and got 17,000 hits. The link below is from BC, Canada. http://www.bchousing.org/news/Stories/both_worlds Assisted living offers seniors ‘the best of both worlds’ Article from Independently Healthy Supplement - November 2005 Fran Kary has nothing but praise for her home at Joseph Creek Village, a private assisted living residence in Cranbrook. In order to be with her frail husband, Fran lived in a residential care facility for 10 years. Now a widow, the 84-year-old had the opportunity to move into an assisted living apartment a year and a half ago. “I actually needed more independence,” said Fran, “and I wanted a place of my own. Now, I can come into my own apartment, make myself a pot of tea, but I can join other seniors in the dining room for meals. I don’t feel like anyone’s telling me what to do. But if I can’t manage, I just push the emergency button and help is there. It’s the best of both worlds.” -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 5 days (2007-06-26 18:28:17 GMT) Post-grading -------------------------------------------------- I did the 'work' out of my own curiosity. If it's for elderly people in need of care, it's an assisted living apartment. If for healthy people who like the garbage taken out etc. 'serviced apartment' is pretty clear.
