agree  Charles Davis: No puedo descartarlo, aunque no veo mucha relación. Los etimólogos dicen que puede ser "of imitative origin" (supongo que quieren decir onomatopéyico). Algunos lo relacionan con OE (inglés antiguo) sceorfan 'morder'. Total: nadie lo sabe.
