abbreviation of "save" and "cancel" buttons?

My client intends to abbreviate the above mentioned button names in Spanish because they do not want to adjust the UI of software. My question to you is: have you ever seen these buttons abbreviated? Can you give me some reasons why they should and should not be abbreviated?

There is no abbreviations for those terms
I really think you shouldn't abbreviate the terms, because the UI has to be friendly for the user, besides there is no abbreviations for "save " and "cancel" in spanish.
