Discussion

Tony M Apr 6, 2017:
@ Asker: CONTEXT? This term is potentially ambiguous, and unless you have already resolved that ambiguity (in which case you need to tell us!), you will need to give us or search for more context.

As I have explained below, 'a re-score' could be interpreted 2 differet ways, depending on what is hidden behind those 'xxxx'
IF it is the name of a film etc., then it would be logical to assume that it does indeed refer to a whole new musical score for the film: for some reason, the producers decided to issue a new soundtrack; it is possible, of course, that it just means someone else has re-recorded the music from the film in order to issue it as a purely sound recording, say — unconnected with the actual film istelf.
HOWEVER...
...it could equally well have the meaning suggested by Hilary below, where the exostong musical score is in some way modified, possibly adapted; this might be in order to change the orchestration, say, or simply to produce a different version, as might be the case, say for a song arranged in an instrumental version, or an orchestral score arranged for say piano.

"The controversial rescore of Drive aired last night on BBC Three.

Masterminded by Zane Lowe, the updated version of Nicolas Winding Refn’s modern classic has been stripped of its Cliff Martinez score and After Dark-inspired synth-pop, and now features a collection of exclusive new tracks by Banks, Baauer, Jon Hopkins, SBTRKT, The 1975, Bastille, Bring Me The Horizon, CHVRCHES, Eric Prydz, Foals, Laura Mvula and The Neighbourhood."

agree Tony M : Yes, could be, it all depends ENTIRELY on what the 'xxx' is — if it is the name of the film, it means it has new music; if it is not the name of the film, then it could have a different meaning.

nouvelle bande originale

Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : Actually, it's NOT a verb here — the clue is in the use of the article 'an'! And your answer might or might not be correct, depending on the actual context. It can mean 'modify the score' as you say (e.g. piano adaptation) OR new musical score altogether
