Discussion

Dr. Hamzeh Thaljeh (asker) Nov 30, 2008:
Yes You are right. Thanks!
Ghada Samir Nov 30, 2008:
In a case like this! In such a case where by the book has a meaning, understood by the source L. reader, when we translate, is it better to use the same metaphor or similie or translate it showing what it is intended to mean; like here: "by the book=طبقاً للأصول ". Appreciate your view point about this matter. Thank you all!
Dr. Hamzeh Thaljeh (asker) Nov 24, 2008:
She certainly appears to be following all the rules and doing everything exactly by the book.
Dr.Dina Nov 24, 2008:
I think providing more context is indispensable here, regarding that your text has to do with phsycology. The term could, therefore, be used with positive and negative connotations depending on the intention of the author.

I think that sometimes, it is better when we provide a translation, with a similar way of metaphor or similie used in the ST , rather than flattening the meaning or giving directly what it was intended to say!.
