Dutch term

technical intervention + completed/terminated/finished....

Non-PRO Dutch to English Other IT (Information Technology)
Which verb would you use to say that "een technische interventie gedaan is". Sentence:

"Als de technische interventie gedaan is, verstuur dan een bericht om het einde ervan aan te kondigen"

Can I simply say: when the technical intervention is done? Seems too literal but I would personally say that in colloquial speech. Or should I use one of these verbs:
- terminated
- finished
- completed
- ended
- ...

Discussion

Mair A-W (PhD) Nov 13, 2018:
moo work, operation... could be equally "neutral"; Michael is right that "intervention" is not the natural term (at least for a Brit) here; however if Kelsey's client insists on intervention then the point is moot.
Marijke Singer Nov 13, 2018:
To intervene or not to intervene I do see Michael's point, however, I do think they are 'interventions' because this is a neutral concept: if you use improvements, you are making a judgement call. They may not be improvements at all, just emergency repairs or a temporary solution. They may not even be measures, but something imposed by the authorities, etc.
KelseyR (asker) Nov 13, 2018:
Intervention here means that they adapt the infrastructure, software, change cables, upgrade the network... everything that has to do with IT/datacenters/...
KelseyR (asker) Nov 13, 2018:
They insist on using the word intervention, they used to translate everything themselves and now they're kinda stuck with the term.

hmm, watch out with the word ‘interventie’ is this Belgian?

I am never very happy translating this as ‘intervention’, which, although sometimes correct, is not always the best solution.

often, it just means something like:

technische interventie = technical measures

on completion [of the technical intervention, send a message to this effect..]

The actual source words are '[Als de technische interventie] gedaan is, [verstuuur dan...]'. The source words should obviously be corrected by replacing them with the Dutch phrase. The translation 'completed' is correct as the sentence is of a technical nature. probably a process description and should be clearly expressed. It should therefore be very clear that the intervention must be 'over' before the message is sent. 'Completed' does this best.

1) Some contributors have offered an alternative translation for 'intervention'. However, the asker's brief states that 'intervention' (not an incorrect term, in context) should be maintained as a mandatory, 'corporate language' term.
2) While other answers are also correct, in essence, the one offered here fits the word order required for the rest of the sentence.

the technical measure(s) has/have been carried out

I know Asker's client insist on using the word ‘intervention’, but thought I would put this up anyway, just to indicate how I would handle this, client permitting of course.

On completion of the technical intervention, send notice to this effect.

"Als de technische interventie gedaan is, verstuur dan een bericht om het einde ervan aan te kondigen."
On completion of the technical intervention, send notice to this effect.

It is important not to change their sentences, as often information is lost in translation as we all know. But, here we see, that in English, the wording is back to front.
"Notice" could mean any form of notification, be it a buzzer, or e-mail or whatever, depending on what it is for.
