French Rental Property
I would be very surprised if this hasn't come up before, but I couldn't find it in this particular context.
"La rémunération du Mandataire représentera un pourcentage convenu, à titre irréductible, de ______ % hors taxes du loyer annuel hors taxes, hors charges, tel que figurant au contrat de bail et sera répartie comme suit :"
When you see French property advertised for rent, it nearly always mentions 'loyer' and 'charges' (a small additional amount) together. Does anyone know what EXACTLY 'charges' is referring to? I.e. is it a one-off payment to an estate agent, does it refer to household bills, or 'service charges' (e.g. for cleaning of communal areas) or something else?

it is a percentage of the annual rent not including the service charges.
When you rent in France you often find one of two options: either a price quoted by means of a figure with, in brackets, (+ "charges") or a price saying "charges" included.

Service charges
I would go with "service charges" Charlotte.
This covers things like work on the communal parts of the building. Eg, many people fight tooth and nail to prevent others installing a lift, since this is the kind of thing that ups the service charges of each tenant...
Hope this helps...

Here in Morrocco, we use the same words as the French law, we have lease contracts in French, charges means all the expenses and costs of the contract fro example registration and all formalities, nothing to do with maintenance...
