: I talked to my co-workers (English is mother language for them) and they also completely agree with "длинный нос" in that context. They also consider that ""почесав затылок" is not applicable in that situation. Sorry for so wordy comment...

: it means: "Trust me, I know something you don't" When there is something you don't know, an English person would actually tap his nose on one side with a finger.
