legato Jan 13, 2005:
Z tym babskiem to absolutnie nie tak. Z cala pewnoscia lepiej bedzie uzyc "virginal female" niz np " virgin woman" albo cos w tym rodzaju

Stuart, a gdzie to tak? :-))

wife

Niewiasta is old Polish and (I may be mistaken here) denoted a married woman. According to Oxford Eng. Dict., also in English "wife" used to mean "a woman: formerly in general sense" (e.g. in "old wives' tale").
So, "a virtuous wife".

Peer comment(s):

neutral Ewa Nowicka : 'female' relates not only to human beings ;)

The idea of the \"virtuous woman\" is an interesting one for both men and women, married and unmarried. For we are all female as concerns God, and we all hope to be virtuous in His sight. So we can learn from Proverbs 31:10-31 as we consider the description of a wife that is to be praised.

agree Andrzej Mierzejewski : old Polish word. IMO tutaj "cnotliwa" = nie-lekkiego prowadzenia się ;-)
