Dutch term

kim -> bilge / chine?

Dutch to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering price enquiry construction sand-lime brick elements
'Kim' could be rendered as 'bilge' or 'chine' in a maritime / ship context. However, how would it be rendered in English in a construction context. Many thanks in advance!

Context:

'Het lijmen van Silka lijmblokken moet gebeuren op een zuiver vlakke ondergrond. Aangezien deze in de bouwpraktijk meestal ontbreekt, zal voorafgaand aan de verlijming een kimconstructie van specie dan wel van Silka kim- of standaardblokken gemaakt moeten worden. Deze kim heeft een tweeledige functie:
1) een vlakke ondergrond maken;

keyway

'Keyway' is the translation given by the Kluwer Bouwkunde woorderboek, which also lists the German equivalents 'Kellersohle-Wandanschluss' and 'wasserdichte Anschlussfüge'.

In construction, a keyway is a long groove formed at a joint to prevent lateral displacement of the mating element (typically, a keyway is formed in a footer by placing a 2x4 or the like in the top of the footer and then removing it before pouring the wall on top of the footer). I've also found one instance where 'keyway' is used to refer to a tapered groove at the base of a wall formed when the wall is poured and subsequently filled with a watertight jointing compound (see www.kryton.com/product_specifier_pdfs/ Specification%20%20-%20Krystol%20Spec%203%20-%20Waterstop%20System.pdf), which seems to match the second German term.

It's not clear from your text whether the intention is actually to form a keyway or just form a 'clean' joint surface.

Laying CSR Hebel blocks is straightforward for the home
handyperson. Note that blocks should not be stored or laid in
rainy weather or wet conditions. Observe the following steps in
order to achieve the best results.

First course

1. Use CSR Hebel Thick Bed Mortar for the base
course bed (a standard brickwork mortar mix is
suitable). *Note: the supporting structure to the CSR
Hebel Block Wall is to be designed to full masonry
standards by a practising structural engineer.
2. Lay a DPC slip joint membrane on the horizontal
surfaces where the blocks will be laid. This will
allow for differential movement between the
blocks and the footings. Install the membrane
prior to the application of the Thick Bed Mortar.
3. Lay Thick Bed Mortar to get the first course of
blocks straight and level. Brush all loose particles
and dust from the base, top and ends of each
block to be laid.
4. Mix CSR Hebel Thin Bed Adhesive using the
directions on the bag.
5. Apply CSR Hebel Thin Bed Adhesive to the end
of the base block using a CSR Hebel notched
trowel that matches the block thickness.
6. Accurately position a block horizontally and tap
into place with a rubber mallet, ensuring that the
block is level in all places (FIGURE A).
