"Minnesota lost at home against the Lakers on Sunday, with Anthony Davis grabbing 25 rebounds as he dominated the paint."
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Juan Jacob

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Discussion

Angela Bustos Mar 12:
"paint" = slang for "key" on a basketball court "To dominate the paint" means to have a good performance, in this case defensively, in the area known as the "key" on a basketball court.

"The paint" is slang for "the key" because it is the part of the court that is painted a different color than the rest of the court, which is usually just hardwood. The exception to that was those horrible NBA Cup courts in late 2023 that were all painted-- but even then, the key was painted a different color than the rest of the court.

Since Anthony Davis plays power forward/center, his role is to be very active in the paint/key, rather than around the perimeter of the court. ¡Suerte!
Zona de 3 segundos de la pista Just to be more specific.
Juan Jacob Mar 12:
Paint = pintura = cancha.

domina debajo del aro

Otra posibilidad, en España al menos muy frecuente.
Peer comment(s):

agree Juan Gil : La sugerencia más razonable de acuerdo como se narra el juego (porque técnicamente es "zona restringida" pero nunca he escuchado que narradores/comentaristas le digan así).

domina en la pintura

It means that the player is very good at playing as a Power Forward "in the paint"; it is inside the 3 seconds zone.

domina en la zona restringida

Paint "refers to the rectangular lane underneath the hoop on a basketball court. It’s often shaded or painted (as with team colors), hence the name". In the official FIBA rules (Spanish translation), this is called "zona restringida". See links.
