Vse ravno nachinaiut mozgi kompassirovat'

Russian to English Social Sciences Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc.
Interview with a drug user.

The drug user says that sometimes the police arrest him just because he has a syringe on his person.
The interviewer asks: Well, is is really a problem if you've only got a syringe? (no drugs)
The drug user replies: Vse ravno nachinaiut mozgi kompassirovat'

I can find 'kompostirovat' and it looks like this is a variation.
Does 'mozgi kompassirovat' just mean to really annoy or does it refer to physical violence?

They badger you anyway

"компассировать" is a spoiled word from "компостировать". Компостер is a mechanical device in a bus, tram or trolleybus. You put a ticket in the slot, push a handle, and the device leaves a combination of holes in your ticket. "Компостировать мозги" is a colloquial way to say that someone is rubbing in, hammering in, dinging something to you.

In general, the expression means here that they start to badger the person, to ask insistently why he/she carries the syringe and so on, trying to make him/her talk.

In Russian, \"компост\" also means a kind of fertilizer. :) And, frankly, I just wonder why the \"ticket punch\" is called \"компостер\" in Russian.... :)

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks to all answerers. This word meaning 'to punch tickets' is the same in French by the way. However 'to compost' in English means something quite different! It means to put something on a 'compost heap' . Now I understand the expression I would translate it as 'they start to do your head in' or 'they start to go on at you'."
