Non-PRO English Other Names (personal, company) Nickname
-Ladies.
-Dudes. Looking good.
Seriously? A mochaccino?
You can't ride with the girls anymore.
I mean, you let them brush your hair,
My Pretty Pony?
Chuck's secure.
Nice, man. Nice kicks.
-Puce.
-Fuck, yeah.
I have track after school.

I'm not sure what Chuck is here. It seems out of context. This is a conversation between high school students.

Thanks, everyone! You've been very helpful.
AllegroTrans Feb 22, 2022:
Chuck's secure might mean he's dating a girl
TonyTK Feb 22, 2022:
@ Tony M You might be right, Tony. I wasn't sure whether it was some outdated macho reference (foamed milk coffee and nice hair vs perceived masculinity; the original film is from the 1980s). It's interesting how we (or I) tend to skip things we don't immediately understand in books or films without realising it. My (German) wife speaks fluent English but regularly pauses a video or reads me a sentence from a book and asks me what it means - generally a cue for me to start waffling for a while before admitting I don't really know ...
Tony M Feb 22, 2022:
@ TonyTK I think you'll find that 'secure' here is a slang usage of the word, rather like people say 'fit' or 'sound', etc. So it doesn't necessarily actually mean 'secure' in its usual, literal sense.
TonyTK Feb 22, 2022:
@ Mohamed Yes, I assume she's saying that he's secure in his personality.
Mohamed Fouda (asker) Feb 22, 2022:
@ TonyTK It just sounds strange and out of context that a girl says all of a sudden, Chuck is secure. Is she implying that Charles is secure against any attempts to shake his confidence?
Mohamed Fouda (asker) Feb 22, 2022:
@ TonyTK More likey! The main character of the movie is called Charles. Thanks!
AllegroTrans Feb 21, 2022:
Yes A person's name
TonyTK Feb 21, 2022:
Chuck is short for ... Charles - as in "Chuck Heston".
