UK politicians frequently challenge their opponents to "get a grip on" something allegedly out of control. I suspect this is where the subject usage had come from. You could use "has got a grip on" to be informal, but "taken control of" is clearer.
With all due respect, both are stronger than Deane's "organized" and reflect previous lack of control.

neutral  Christopher Schröder: Once again we have no idea what the speaker is on about without further context. They've got to grips with them in some way, but extrapolating this to reorganising or regaining control is sheer guesswork IMO.
