Vacasaciones Definition from Wikipedia: A holiday period which is spent at home (stay + vacation = abridged “staycation”) or within a day trip distance of one´s home and not requiring overnight accommodation. Español: "Período en el que una persona o familia se queda en casa y participa en actividades de ocio a poca distancia de su domicilio que no requieren alojarse fuera de la vivienda durante la noche". Example sentence(s):
Explanation: The advantage of this proposal is that it maintains the portmanteau structure of the English original being thus loyal to the English neologism. An additional advantage of this new word is that it allows an easy translation of “staycationers”, the noun derived from “staycation”, which, following this logic, would translate into Spanish as “vacasacioneros”, another neologism admittedly requiring some time to get used to it, but proving that Spanish can evolve and develop as quickly and effectively as any other language in the world. |
