Je vois que ph-b avait proposé passage cocher en commentant la réponse de Marielle, évidemment un synonyme de porte cochère, qui donc j'aurais du poster comme référence :
"Une porte cochère (ou passage cocher) est une baie dans la façade d'un bâtiment par laquelle les véhicules peuvent passer (une entrée de garage par exemple). Elle est indispensable pour accéder à la cour arrière à cause de la proximité ou de la juxtaposition de corps de bâtiment voisins ou par l'absence d'un autre accès à la cour arrière ainsi qu'aux dépendances."

neutral  ph-b (X): J'y avais pensé aussi, mais le texte source parle de locaux tucked away under. Je pense que « passage » est plus approprié que « porte » dans le cas présent : locaux dans un passage et pas sous/dans une porte.

Explanation:
That's literally what it is — but it may be unnecessary detail to literally state the 'coaching' part; but this is in essence what it means: a large arched entrance in a row of buildings, leading to a large courtyard beyond where there was room to turn the stagecoach round and change the horses.
