: the trouble is, if 'clignotant' has already been used for 'turn signal', it would be confusing to use it again here for the actual 'flasher unit' itself.

Le turn signal flasher et le turn signal light sont deux extrémités d’un même système (le wire harness); ils doivent donc comporter des appellations différentes. Une extrémité étant le mécanisme à l’intérieur du véhicule pour signaler notre intention de tourner et, l’autre, les feux qui clignotent à l’extérieur du véhicule.
L’important, quand on renomme à partir d’une traduction antérieure, c’est d’être cohérent et conséquent dans tout le texte afin d’appeler les mêmes choses par les mêmes termes, et ce, peu importe ce par quoi on décide de les nommer.
