German to English Science Geology

From a document looking at the work required vs timings of building an underground tunnel:

...Management der sedimentfreisetzenden Arbeiten...

I currently have 'management of the works to release the sediment' but I'm not sure whether 'release' is correct. It doesn't seem right to me but I haven't managed to come up with anything else.
